Juniors’ late-game heroics in grand finals

Irrewarra’s Josh McDonald and Colac’s George Melville and Isaac Johns enjoyed late-game heroics to get their sides over the line in Colac district’s junior cricket grand finals.

Both the under-17 and under-14 grand finals went down to the final over in Thursday and Friday night’s matches.

Colac West needed four runs from the final over in the under-17 grand final at Colac’s lake oval.

McDonald allowed just one run and took three wickets to guide his team to a memorable two-run win, earning the best-on-ground medal.

At the same time, Melville and Johns put on 27-run final-wicket partnership to guide the Stallions to victory against an undefeated Apollo Bay side in the under-14 decider at Colac Secondary College.

Colac teammate Fraser Holt scored an unbeaten 34 runs earlier in the match to earn the best-on-ground medal.
