Nine clubs to field teams in all three junior grades

Colac district football officials say concerns about introducing a third junior age group have been unfounded, with nine of the 10 clubs indicating they will field teams in all three grades.

The CDFNL’s new-look junior structure will start on Saturday, with under-18, under-15 and under-13 competitions, differing from the under-14.5 and under-17.5 competitions last season.

New league chairman Peter Hickey said Otway Districts was the only club unable to field three junior teams.

The Demons failed to field an under-17.5 side last season.

“At this stage all clubs have said they’re fielding sides in all three junior grades, except for Otway in the 18s,” he said.

“All the clubs have been positive, I know there have been a couple that have been a bit nervous about numbers, but none had indicated to us that they wouldn’t be able to field teams.

“They were confident they would get the numbers from somewhere.”
