A whopping 49 Colac district footballers have earned an opportunity to represent the league for the first time this year.
New interleague coach Dan Casey this week released an initial 70-man training squad for this year’s AFL Victoria Community Championships.
Just 21 of the players have previously represented the league since the CDFNL returned to the championships in 2013.
Casey said the squad was picked solely on form from the opening three rounds, giving coaches an opportunity to put forward players’ names.
“If guys are in form, that’s the only thing interleague should be picked on,” he said.
“I had a squad of about 40 players and obviously a few of them were injured or unavailable, but then I spoke to the coaches about who they thought should be included in the squad based on their players’ form.
