Call for long-term solution for Bay’s eroding coastline

The Apollo Bay foreshore is undergoing sand renourishment in preparation for winter’s rougher weather which can erode the beach.

Recent high tides and rough weather have bought on community concerns for the Apollo Bay foreshore’s erosion.

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning working with the Otway Coast Committee has been doing sand renourishment to minimise foreshore erosion.

Action for Apollo Bay Alliance’s John Gorman said the temporary measures were successful in preventing further erosion so far.

But Mr Gorman said he was concerned about when authorities would take further action to create a long-term solution.

“It is holding up but the issue is we’re just waiting incredibly patiently to actually see what DELWP are going to do in regard to more permanent measures,” he said.
