Saints rising star a shooting sensation

Tully Bethune has helped Birregurra’s 13-and-under side to an unbeaten start to the season.

Birregurra rising star Tully Bethune says learning to use her towering height to her advantage has led to exceptional results in just her second season of netball.

The 13-year-old has netted 344 goals at club level for the undefeated Saints so far in 2019, averaging close to 50 goals a game.

She has also helped the Colac district’s representative outfit enjoy unbeaten performances at a Barwon Junior Netball Championship and at interleague level ahead of this Sunday’s Zone Association Championships.

Tully, who stands at about six-foot-two or 188, centimetres, said her experience under coaches at Birregurra and representative level had led to her rapid rise in the goalshooters’ bib this year.

She plays under former A Grade stars Karen Hart and Kirsty Roberts at the Saints, and learns from Deanne Cumming and Georgia Robinson in the Colac district green and gold.

“I’ve always been pretty tall, but in the last three years I’ve grown a lot more than usual,” she said.
