Senior interleague selectors consider promoting junior

Colac district senior interleague selectors are weighing up whether to promote a junior footballer to play as a 23rd man this weekend.

Lorne’s Simon Umbers during last year’s under-18 interleague clash.

Selectors finalised a 22-person team this week, but have an option to play 23 in tomorrow’s AFL Victoria Community Championships clash with the Maryborough Castlemaine district league.

CDFNL coach Dan Casey said Lorne premiership player Simon Umbers was a strong chance, while Otway Districts’ Jim Abraham and Colac Imperials’ Campbell Scott were also in the mix.

“We’re allowed to take 23, so we’re floating the idea of playing of the of the kids who have been playing regular senior footy and just giving them that experience of senior interleague,” he said yesterday as the Colac Herald went to print.

“We’re just toying with the idea at the moment, we don’t know just yet.”
