Twelve to debut for Colac district senior interleague side

Twelve players will make their senior interleague debuts for the Colac district league following seven withdrawals from squad this week.

Colac district senior interleague coach Dan Casey with debutants Josh Woods, of South Colac, Alvie’s Angus Uwland and Colac Imperials’ Bailey Scott.

Alvie ruckman Lincoln Dare was the latest to pull out of the final 22, and was replaced by in-form South Colac tall Josh Goonan.

Selectors also considered bringing in a player from the league’s under-18 side to play as a 23rd man but opted against it.

Coach Dan Casey said selectors were confident they had put together a side that would be more than competitive in tomorrow’s AFL Victoria Community Championships clash against the Maryborough Castlemaine district league.

“We had a few guys pull up sore from the weekend that weren’t up for selection,” Casey said.

“Andrew Kelly was one, Steve Salajan, Jake Barlow, Brock Neal, Daniel Razga and Tom McKean,” he said.

“They’re all good players and would have been good to have in the side, but I think we’ve got the best 22 that were available, fit and firing.

“It’s a pretty young list but there’s still some good older heads around them.”

Alvie midfielder Angus Uwland and Colac Imperials ruckman Duom Dawam will represent the Colac district in their first seasons in the league, while other new senior representatives include Alvie’s Matt Kelly, Apollo Bay’s Dan Delaney, Colac Imperials’ Sam Lucas and Bailey Scott, Simpson’s Brad Salmon and Matt Drayton, and South Colac’s Goonan, Mitch Perkins, Josh Woods and Joel Menzies.
