Otway Districts coach Zach Hickleton fears he has played his last game of football after persistent back pain has derailed his career.

The first-year standalone coach, one of the league’s most talented backmen when firing, has played six games for the Demons this year as a forward while managing the injury.

Hickleton has made an impact in his new role, booting 12 goals at an average of two a game.

But the 29-year-old said the effort required to prepare for a game and the consequence that followed, forced him to question his future in the sport.

Hickleton, a Geelong Falcon as a junior, said he was managing a bulged disk and early onset arthritis in his back.
