Colac trio in Cats’ academy

Trinity College Colac students, from left, Will McLachlan, Sienna Mallon and Henry Melville have earned selection in a new eight-week training program for talented young footballers, the Geelong Cats Academy.

Three Colac footballers will take their first step towards the Geelong Falcons’ program with selection in a new Geelong Cats initiative.

The Cats have introduced an under-14 academy, as well as under-15 boys’ and under-16 girls’ teams that will compete in this year’s V-Line Cup.

Officials will release the V-Line Cup squads next month, but this week announced the under-14 group which included Colac tigers footballers Will McLachlan and Henry Melville, and Colac Imperials’ Sienna Mallon.

“The Geelong Cats Academy is a new program that incorporates the V-Line Cup,” AFL Barwon’s Luke Maher said.

“The under-14 portion of the academy is solely an eight-week training program, there’s no game at the end for this group,” he said.
