Tiger shines in comeback game

Emerging Colac footballer Leigh Gorwell starred in his first game of senior football in 623 days, following an injury-plagued year and a half. Gorwell ranked among the Tigers’ best players during Saturday’s comprehensive win against Grovedale.

Injury-plagued Colac Tigers footballer Leigh Gorwell has made a starring return to the club’s top side in his first game of senior football in a year and a half.

Hamstring issues plagued the 20-year-old ball-winner last year, restricting him to just seven games at reserves and under-19 level, following his breakout season in the seniors in 2017.

Colac co-coach Kane Leersen said Gorwell’s call-up was a good reward for the hard work he had put in to get his body right.

“It was great to have him back,” he said.

“He’s a great young footballer; his ball use is exceptional and his intensity around the contest.

“It was a really good step for him, he had a strong pre-season and put in a lot of work with (strength and conditioning coach) Marc Christian, hopefully he can keep building on that.
