Bomber set to break record

Irrewarra-Beeac’s Josh Sanders has tied the Colac district league’s junior goalkicking record, and appears set to break it against Colac Imperials this weekend.

Colac district football historian Moc Middleton says he hasn’t seen a junior footballer make headlines like Josh Sanders, who is set to break the league’s junior goalkicking record this weekend.

The Irrewarra-Beeac youngster booted eight goals in his under-15 team’s win against Simpson on Saturday.

The haul takes his goal total to 116 for the season, equalling the record set by fellow Irrewarra-Beeac footballer Mario Dimasi back in 1987.

Sanders has four home-and-away matches remaining to make the record his own, but is likely to break the record this weekend against Colac Imperials, who he kicked 11 goals against in round six.

Middleton, who has been involved in Colac district football for almost six decades, said he couldn’t remember too many junior footballers doing what Sanders is doing.
