Donations stolen from charity tins

A string of thefts along Colac’s Murray Street has targeted charity donation jars.

Thieves have targeted three Colac shops, stealing donation jars from Jo’s Pantry, Thwaites Bakehouse and Colac Pharmacy.

Staff from the shops are pleading with the public to help in returning the donation jars that went missing in the past week.

The donation jar on the counter at Jo’s Pantry was collecting money for the Jodi Lee foundation in honour of a past customer who died from bowel cancer.

Abbey Delorenzo from Jo’s Pantry said the jar had about $40 to $50 in donations and that staff believed someone stole the jar on Friday or Saturday when the store would have been busy, going unnoticed.

“It’s money that people have donated to a cause rather than for somebody to take,” Ms Delorenzo said.
