The State Government has boosted an aspiring Apollo Bay children’s author’s career by distributing her story to 35,000 new parents.
Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos and a panel of selectors chose Nicola Philp’s picture book Baby Days as one of four stories to distribute in its free baby bundle.
Nicola said the endorsement illustrated that she could make her “pipe dream” a reality.
The Apollo Bay P-12 College teacher said she had been passionate about picture books since university, where she completed her honours thesis on children’s books.
“It’s like a dream come true really,” she said.
“It’s one of those things that’s been a pipe dream for years and you keep chipping away at it and getting rejected by publishers, and then having like a mid-life crisis going ‘I’m going to make this happen’.
“I went to nominate it for the baby bundle but someone had already nominated it, which was nice.
