A new Colac men’s group is taking mental health seriously.
The newly formed Men’s Space group meets at Colac Neighbourhood House every Friday, catching up for a cuppa and a chat, with a focus on health, wellbeing and social connection.
The men are aiming to break down the stigma of mental health by talking about their problems and lending an ear to other men in need.
Men’s Space group member Phillip Warwick said the weekly catch-ups gave the men a chance to talk about their day and share problems without feeling embarrassed.
Group member Alan Bryan said it was important to break down the stigma of mental health and feel open to “get the black dog off your back”.
Sean Slavin said men in the region faced challenges due to mental health issues.
“Mental health is isolating. They can feel like they’re the only one but they’re not alone,” he said.
Men’s Space welcomes any Colac and district men to join their catch-ups each Friday.
