Emerging Colac cricketer Josh Garner says an impressive debut bowling performance at a national under-17 carnival has lifted his spirits ahead of busy fortnight.
Garner starred in the field for Vic Country during its round one match against host state Queensland on Monday to start the Cricket Australia Under-17 National Championships in positive fashion.
The 16-year-old finished with figures of 4-65 from his 10 overs as Queensland posted 7-284 batting first.
Vic Country could only manage 7-231 in reply, with Garner hitting a boundary to finish unbeaten on four runs after facing just three balls.
“I was pretty nervous and took a few overs to settle in,” Garner said during yesterday’s rest day.
“But I was pretty happy with how I went, I got hit a little bit at the end but that happens, and it was a good challenge because they’re going to be one of the teams to beat after they won it last year.”
Garner said officials had identified his role as a bowling all-rounder for the two-week tournament at Mackay in Queensland.
