Colac and district’s health services have launched emergency protocols after south-west Victorian hospitals suffered a cyber security scare.

Hospitals controlled by the South West Alliance of Rural Health, which includes Colac Area Health, Lorne Community Hospital, Otway Health and Community Services and Timboon Healthcare, had their information technology systems infiltrated by ransomware by unknown offenders on Monday evening.

The Department of Premier and Cabinet released a statement yesterday notifying the public of the attack.

“The information technology systems at a number of hospitals and health services in Gippsland and south-west Victoria have been impacted by a cyber security incident,” the statement said.

“At this time, there is no suggestion that personal patient information has been accessed.
