Swans book last spot in finals

Alvie’s Liam Williamson and Tim McKay, pictured centre, combined for five wickets to help the Swans book a spot in Twenty20 finals.

Alvie has secured the last spot in Colac district cricket’s Twenty20 finals series with a 27-run victory over Warrion.

Alvie posted 6-153 batting first at Lake Oval in what was a pseudo-knockout final between the two sides who were level on points entering the clash, so the result would decide who joined Pool B winners City United in the semi-finals.

Alvie built its innings from the 102-run opening stand between skipper Andre DeLorenzo, who top scored with 61 runs, and Sam Parker, 38 runs.

DeLorenzo said he was pleased with how he and his opening partner combined to lay the foundations for a match-winning score.

“Sammy batted really well, he played within himself and scored at a good clip as well,” he said.

“I was impressed with the way he applied himself to get us off to a good start.”
