Colac’s iconic botanic gardens will likely stay greener through the summer thanks to a big funding boost from the State Government.
The government this week announced a $95,000 grant for the Colac Botanic Gardens to improve water supply required to irrigate the gardens’ significant tree collection and respond to drought and climate change impacts.
Friends of the Colac Botanic Gardens president Chris Bell said the grant would likely fund the repair, replacement and extension of irrigation lines and the implementation of a modern control system for water supply – meaning more water for more of the gardens.
“We’d like to congratulate the shire on their success with the grant, it’s going to make life a lot easier for the gardeners, and this is certainly good news for the gardens,” Mr Bell said.
