Otways campus gets green light

Colac Otway Shire Council has approved Ballarat Clarendon College’s planning application for a proposed Year Nine residential facility at Yuulong, near Cape Otway. The school bought 40 hectares of picturesque land at the Old Iluka Access site last year.

A Ballarat college’s proposed Otways bush campus has received the go-ahead from Colac Otway Shire Council’s planning department.

The council granted a planning permit this week to Ballarat Clarendon College, allowing the school to establish a live-in campus at Yuulong near the Great Ocean Road.

The application proposed a development at Old Iluka Access that would accommodate 40 students, 10 staff and 10 additional support staff as part of the school’s remote learning program.

A college spokesperson confirmed to the Colac Herald in November that the college had purchased a 40-hectare property for the planned residential campus, which will host the Year Nine program.

Colac Otway Shire Mayor Jason Schram said there had been strong interest in development in Colac Otway Shire and that the council’s planning and economic development departments had been working closely with a range of applicants who wanted to establish themselves in the region.
