Birregurra’s Ben King says playing a senior cricket match alongside his teenage daughter Alaska came as no surprise after years of competitive outings in the back yard.
Ben and Alaska were a rare father-daughter combination in Colac district cricket during the Saints’ Division Three clash against Colac last weekend.
The 14-year-old is among a wave of up-and-coming women’s cricketers making their mark on the association after the introduction of competitive cricket for females in recent seasons.
Alaska is a key member of Birregurra’s team in a Geelong-based junior competition, while she is preparing to join the Colac district side for its inaugural County Week campaign at Hamilton next week.
Ben has three children, Alaska, Lil, 12, and Xavier, 7.
He said Alaska and Lil had always shown interest in male-dominated sports.
