Colac basketballers earn All Star honour

Colac basketballers Nathan Lemke, left, and Jordan Lingard earned All Star selection for their impressive seasons in the Country Basketball League.

State basketball officials have rewarded two Colac basketballers for their stellar seasons in the Country Basketball League.

Colac Kookas coach Nathan Lemke and assistant coach Jordan Lingard both earned one of five All Star spots for the CBL’s south-west conference for the 2019-20 season.

It was the second straight All Star selection for Lemke, while Lingard made the squad for the first time after being nominated the past two years.

Colac’s Emma Hawker was nominated for women’s All Star selection but missed out.

Colac Basketball Association president Peter Lemke said Lingard and Lemke had made a big impact since returning to the program last summer following stints in the American college system.

They led the Kookas to a semi-final final this season.

“The selections are well deserved, they’ve both had big seasons,” Mr Lemke said.

“They’re probably rated as the best two bigs in the comp, when we played Mount Gambier in the semi-final Jordy was getting double and triple teamed,” he said.

“They’ve certainly earnt the respect of the comp and it’s good to see them getting the recognition.”
