Geelong VFL football officials have put Colac key-position player Adam Garner up against AFL footballers like Harry Taylor and Josh Jenkins in a bid to help his development.
Garner was among the first 10 players re-signed by the Cats’ VFL squad during the off-season, despite failing to play a game his first season on the list.
He will be the Tigers’ sole representative on the list this season, with Floyd brothers Campbell and Ethan stepping back, and Zach Zdybel declining a pre-season offer to commit fully to the Tigers.
Geelong VFL team co-ordinator Nathan Tweddle said Garner had been the victim of an abundance of talls in the Cats’ AFL squad last season.
“He was really close (to getting a game) a few times last year, we would have loved to get him a couple of games,” he said.
“During his exit meeting we indicated we’d love to sign him again and he said he was keen to give it a really good crack.
