Colac Otway Shire Council will likely receive an assessment of a proposal to buy the former Colac High School site next month, with councillors likely to read the verdict soon after.
At the council’s ordinary meeting on Wednesday, Colac’s Marjorie Hamilton asked the council’s Ian Seuren for an update on the council’s plans to buy the site.
The council had planned to buy part of the land to make way for new community sports facilities but plans came to a halt when the State Government rejected the council’s request to buy an additional five hectares to the 2.5-hectare parcel it had already received.
The State Government told the council it was all or nothing and the purchase would have to include the site’s heritage-listed quadrangle building, which the council initially didn’t want to take on.
