Positive test at Murray Street business

Colac business Murray Street Market has closed after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19, but the state health department considers the case to be extremely low-risk and will not contact trace.

The employee last worked during a four-hour shift on Tuesday, from 10am until 2pm, before getting a coronavirus test while asymptomatic on Wednesday.

The business informed customers of the test and its correspondence with the Department of Health and Human Services this morning.

Business owner Kerrin Angel-Irvine said the employee wore gloves and a mask during her last shift, and that DHHS had told the employee that it was highly unlikely they had transmitted the virus, so contact tracing was not necessary.

The employee and a co-worker who worked the same shift will monitor themselves for flu-like symptoms in the coming days.

Where To Buy

She said Murray Street Market staff have worn masks and gloves since last week.

But Ms Angel-Irvine said the store would close for deep cleaning and for staff to get COVID-19 tests for “peace of mind” after it had seen large volumes of customers in recent days to buy face masks.
