A community petition calling for “better social

A community petition calling for “better social housing options for Colac” has garnered hundreds of signatures in less than 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the city’s mayor has repeated calls for a proposed housing development at Pound Road to be integrated throughout the community instead.

It comes amid community debate on the proposal that highlights immediate need versus the long-term implications of concentrated social housing.

Colac Otway Shire Council’s 2025-26 grants program is offering more than $300,000 to deliver projects that benefit the wider community.

The grants program has three funding streams including community, events and business grants.

Employees from Colac organisations Bulla, AKD, Colac Area Health and Colac Otway Shire Council have been invited to the experience at Kangaroobie in Princetown.

The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards seminar is for young people aged between 18 and 25, and aims to provide “an effective training experience for young people and those who see themselves as potential leaders”.

Winchelsea’s Nick Jordan-Hill knows the vital role that doctors play in small communities, and the lived experience is helping shape his own career path.

Nick lives at a sheep farm with cropping land north of Winchelsea’s township, and has called the area home all his life.

Nick is also one of four Deakin postgraduate medical students undertaking a 42-week clinical placement at Colac Area Health this year.
