Colac cricketer Henry Melville’s Under-19 National Championships have come to an end, after the Victoria Country side bowed out of the tournament in third place.

Country played its final match of the championships in an all-Victorian third-place final against Vic Metro last Thursday.

Metro posted a big score of 6-282 batting first but Country managed to chase the total down comfortably with five overs to spare and seven wickets remaining.

As the result of only losing three wickets, Melville was not required to bat in the constellation victory.

Melville and his Country teammates faced Queensland Metro on December 21 for a spot in the championships grand final but fell 70 runs short.

Melville batted through middle-order for the first time in the carnival, having opened the batting in the three previous matches.

The 17-year-old managed just seven runs from 26 balls in his new position at five, before being stumped in the 18th over.

Melville finished the championships scoring 52 runs at an average of 13 across Vic Country’s four innings.
