Colac Otway Shire Council is proposing to cease it

Colac Otway Shire Council is proposing to cease its bat nudging program and leave the animals where they are in the Colac Botanic Gardens.

The council will discuss the management of the grey headed flying foxes in the gardens at its monthly council meeting next week, after previous discussions were withdrawn from the council’s September agenda.

The bats have called the gardens home seasonally since 2016, with numbers fluctuating due to factors including weather, food, the change of seasons and the nomadic nature of the species.

A Colac basketball coach has reflected on a Junior Country Championship grand final win.

Kynan Parker coached Geelong United’s under-12 boys division one side to a victory at Bendigo this month.

The 20-year-old coach had previously taken the Kookas under-12 girls side to a grand final at that same tournament three years ago.

A Colac premier cricketer is taking his talents to the Netherlands on a six-month trip to expand his game.

Henry Melville left last Tuesday to make the 23-hour flight to The Hague.

His first time abroad, the talented keeper-batsman will be playing with the Voorburg Cricket Club, working on developing the junior team as well as aspects of his own game.

The Colac community has dug deep for the Royal Chi

The Colac community has dug deep for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, collectively donating more than $68,000.

Colac was 14th on the Appeal’s Regional Tally Board for 2025 and raised its highest total ever, thanks to a series of volunteer collection efforts and community fundraisers.
