Fire and crash near Winchelsea

Country Fire Authority crews were called to a grass fire near Winchelsea yesterday morning after a property owner lost control of a planned burn.

Winchelsea Fire Brigade Captain Kaylene Stocks said the registered burn-off had taken off after the wind had “picked up” and the incident sent an important message to property owners.

Ms Stocks said property owners needed to be vigilant and make sure they had an adequate water supply available when burning off.

Meanwhile, police and ambulance crews attended a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Conns Lane and the Princes Highway yesterday afternoon.

Paramedics assessed three people, and transported a woman in her 60s and a primary-school-aged boy to Geelong hospital in stable condition.
