When Barassi came to town

When Colac coach and former Melbourne footballer John Beckwith was hospitalised in 1962, Demons legend Ron Barassi came to Colac to visit. An impromptu training session gave some Colac players the chance to work with one of the greatest players in the history of football. Barassi is pictured handballing with, from left, Geoff Kerr, Dinny Morrissy, Jim Lang, Hugh Earnshaw, Brian Campigli and John Russell. The footy community will farewell the AFL Hall of Fame legend today with a state funeral at the MCG.

Imagine the hype if a Dustin Martin or Nick Daicos arrived in Colac to put its footballers through their paces in the thick of the AFL season.
