70s Holden wagon brought back to life

JOURNEY: Nigel Hawker with his 1973 HQ Holden wagon which he begun working on in 2017. The three-year restoration saw both the interior and exterior of the car completely redone.

Despite growing up as a self-proclaimed ‘Ford man’, car enthusiast Nigel Hawker’s three-year restoration of a 1973 HQ Holden has been a rewarding project.

Despite a harrowing experience where she almost died off the Great Ocean Road, Colac teen Evie Knight is going to keep living her life to the fullest.

The 18-year-old was at Ryan’s Den, a remote beach off the Great Ocean Walk, about 20 kilometres south west of Lavers Hill, when everything went wrong.

@letstalkcolac committee member Melissa Smith’s “heart is full” after the community’s spirit shone through at the Walk the Walk Festival over the weekend, aimed at raising awareness and funds for mental health.

After the event, LET’S TALK Colac passed the relay baton on to @colacsecondarycollege this week, where students have been learning more about the LET’S TALK organisation and the importance of starting conversations about mental health with family and friends.

Learning of the devastation a coastal town went through without power during an emergency situation motivated Nicola Philp to campaign for an energy back-up system in Apollo Bay.

The Bay, Lorne and Port Campbell were among 27 towns to earn State Government funding for a community hub to access information, hot water and device charging points for prolonged power outages.

Nicola, a local teacher, said she identified Apollo Bay P-12 College as an ideal location to install a battery, which would power the town’s leisure centre and a key building on the site for an extended period.
