It has taken years of hard work, often a step back for two steps forward, but the ruck-forward’s dreams were realised when her name was read out by Western Bulldogs with pick 48 in the AFLW national draft on Monday night.

Colac Salvation Army’s Josiah Van Niekerk will become Corps Leader from mid-next month, taking over from departing Corps Officer Paul Trotter.

Josiah will mirror Paul’s role even though he is not an ordained officer, after receiving the green light from Salvos headquarters and setting a new precedent in Australia.
