A Birregurra community health petition supported b

A Birregurra community health petition supported by more than half the town’s population has reached Parliament.

Polwarth MP Richard Riordan tabled the Birregurra Community Health Centre petition in Parliament this month with 539 official signatures.

The petition, circulating during February, called on the State Government to continue to support the health service and reinstate $350,000 in critical funding that had been cut.

Colac Kana Festival is set for a big return this weekend, with the community anticipating the 65th iteration of the event.

Colac Otway Shire Council approved a new two-year lease for the Visitor Information Centre at a recent council meeting.

Local Driver Reviver volunteers braved sweltering conditions across the long weekend to help motorists recharge with biscuits, tea and laughter at Colac’s rest site.

Co-ordinator Glenn Rippon said the beginning of the weekend was relatively quiet with 35 drivers passing through on Friday, 11 on Saturday and 12 on Sunday.

District emergency services have been kept busy during the long weekend with three car crashes in the space of four hours.

The first crash occurred at the intersection of the Hamilton Highway and the Colac-Ballarat Road at Cressy about 3.30pm on Sunday.

Lismore SES responded to the single vehicle rollover but on arrival found most of the patients were in the care of paramedics.
