  1. Saying that the increase is due to an increase in reporting is just saying that the previous stats were inaccurate. It’s still not a good thing. The violence is still happening. And the officer quoted can’t possibly be sure that the increase is ONLY due to an increase in reports and not an increase in attacks. After all, he has no knowledge of attacks that are not reported, by virtue of them not being reported.
    Perhaps if reporters refrained from victim blaming when reporting on such attacks, victims might be more willing to come forward.
    For future reference, that means that it is reported as an attack caused by the attackers lack of self control, not by what the victim was wearing, where they were or the possibility they might have bought it on themselves because they had a drink.
    Assaults aren’t hiding behind a bedroom door waiting for some deserving person to enter, attackers are waiting for someone smaller and weaker to walk in. Attackers cause the assault, not the victim.
