  1. ‘I get ya Phil’… But sadly I dont know of a Government at any level that has really tried to help people at the “lower end of society” (i dont like having had to say that bit), and those people also have to pull there own act together and not just rely on Goverment assistance. It does suck that Tafe funding has been cut, as this was a great way for props to access some help.
But the Goverment just keeps pushing a bigger split between ‘Social classes’ and it not gunna get any better in the near future. 🙁

You have taken me too literally. The real point I was making is since coming to power the present State government has cut funding to many programmes that assist people to become better citizens in our society. Cuts to TAFE are but one example of this. This can lead to an increase in the crime rate as people either out of necessity or vengeance on society commit crimes against it. (However, I’m not suggesting all criminal acts can be attributed to this) Indeed, figures show the crime rate has increased significantly since the present government has been in power.
Installing cameras does not make us safer it just means we can watch a replay of crimes being committed.
To reduce crime governments must try to ensure all members of society have a chance to contribute productively to it.
This government is failing to do this at the present time.

  3. I think the cameras are a great! It might help encourage people to our town aswell as (hopefully) making the streets somewhat safer. I honestly think they should put up some more and some dummy cameras just to keep people on their toes.

  4. So it’s only young people that misbehave? Really? Why the emphasis on how many young people are going to get caught out?
Looking forward to the first prosecutions of the drunk 40yo’s for the show weekend.
Oh and exactly what parts of memorial square are being filmed? The children’s playground by any chance? Bad enough that children at the skate park are going to be filmed. Are there going to be notices placed so they know in advance and can choose to not go and not be filmed?
The council should be far more concerned with the drunks leaving the pubs – drunks of all ages, not just young people.

It’s quite obvious you are only after the kids, Otherwise you would be monitoring the pubs.

  5. @Phil, The violence and drunken behavior in the streets has nothing to do with the TAFE funding what so ever, If I had my way there would be cameras on every street corner

Great initiative by Mr. Mulder and his government.
It works like this. Slash funding to our TAFE system so that many young people are deprived of a chance to develop skills which might enable them to get a job. Install cameras so these disaffected kids can be filmed causing trouble. Have them arrested and then put in new gaols which are partly funded by cuts made to the TAFE system.
