Television issues create concerns

Beachfront Motel owners Rob and Kath Duckier are relieved a Colac-based antenna service was able to fix television reception issues before the Christmas rush. The couple are concerned other residents and holiday home owners might be unaware of the cause of the television interference.

TELEVISION interference from a phone network upgrade has forced Apollo Bay accommodation owners to pay up to $200 to provide guests with television reception.

Colac Otway Shire Council is going to “let natur

Colac Otway Shire Council is going to “let nature take its course” and allow a colony of bats to remain roosting in heritage trees in the Colac Botanic Gardens.

It comes after the council spent more than $300,000 over a period of four years unsuccessfully attempting to move the grey-headed flying foxes.

A council officer explained that the council had attempted to disperse and ‘nudge’ the bats from their current location near the playground but never managed to get them to the preferred spot along the northern side of the gardens.

Independent candidate for Wannon Alex Dyson says he will push for Colac and district community infrastructure projects, while his campaign now has more 1000 volunteers.

Mr Dyson appeared at Colac’s early voting centre yesterday and said he had also met with the region’s local councils, including Colac Otway Shire, speaking with its chief executive about roads, childcare and housing issues.

It’s a chance for locals to see just how big their prized possession can get, with a reward of the pumpkin’s journey coming full circle.

Colac’s Jai and Mia Stinchcombe have watched their Atlantic Giant pumpkin flourish in recent months, now weighing in at 7.4 kilograms.
