Councillor wants feedback on lakeside amphitheatre

Should Colac have an amphitheatre on the Lake Colac foreshore? Cr Jason Schram wants to know the community’s views on the concept.

Cr Schram will move a motion at Wednesday’s Colac Otway Shire Council meeting proposing six weeks of public consultation to gauge public support for a soundshell by the lake below Colac Botanic Gardens, or elsewhere in Colac.

He said a soundstage could host concerts, community events, theatre and school presentations during the warmer months as well as Carols by Candlelight and Australia Day festivities.

“It was driven from community members that had toured regional Victoria and seen amphitheatres and soundshells in small regional towns,” Cr Schram said.

“It’ll be great for the town and it’ll look great overlooking the lake,” he said.

“I think the benefits for the arts community are endless.”

Wondering if a sound shell would be better at the Elliminyt footy oval area with shell facing the slopes. Great views of lake from up there, possibilities for better parking and still a great community space with an amazing play ground.
