Big new warning for Murray Street motorists

RoadSafe Otway chairman Matt Daniels approves of new speed limit signs at Colac’s western boundary.

A Colac road safety activist has welcomed new speed limit signs at Colac West and says they will improve safety for road
users.

RoadSafe Otway chairman Matt Daniels said the new signs at Colac’s western edge, indicating the start of a 60-kilometre-an-hour zone, meant there was no excuse for drivers not to abide by the city’s speed limit as they enter from the Princes Highway.

“I know the area fairly well and I would often drive through and think, ‘where’s the 60 again?’,” he said.

“It wasn’t that obvious because there’s all these different signs along the way.

“I think it’s certainly a positive step to make it more obvious where the urban area starts.”

I wish they worked as well as he hopes. I’m still seeing vehicles speeding along that part of Murray st… mostly tourist and trucks.
It’s also a hot spot for people using their mobiles as they feel theirs nobody watching.
